Ready to be Married: The Caption of Death
I still call my best friend from high school about 2-3x a week. He is generous to a fault, very smart, caring, and funny. (He's taken now, but I tried to set him up with a Xanga friend once). He also kills any chance I have of ever getting married. Let me explain:
1. I'm working my first real job, and wouldn't you know it, I meet this lovely teacher and have a great first date on my birthday. (Kids, btw, never have a first date on your birthday, haha). Anyway, I show him a picture of her, probably bragging a little too. He IM's back "Aww, she's pretty, looks a lot like your mom."
My mom?! Really?! But you know what? He wasn't that far off. She and I went out one more time. It was boring, and she wouldn't return my emails anymore. The end.
2. I move to a very good job (the one I have now), and meet this pretty graduate student. We hang out and seem to be getting along great! I ask her for a photo, and she asks if it is for my guy friends, haha. I hem and haw and she sends one along anyway. So I show him the photo, and he says "You know, she kind of reminds me of my sister."
His sister?! The sister he's always trying to get me to date? The sister I've never show any interest in? Ouch. So, um, suddenly I don't have any romantic feelings for her. We muddle along another month or two while I try desperately to regain interest, but it never goes anywhere. She was almost everything on my usual list of favorites, too.
3. Recently, I meet a very attractive woman who doesn't have much in common with me otherwise. I decide to see her twice anyway. I should know better, but like a fool, I show him a photo yet again. His response? "That looks a lot like Susan Henderson."
Susan?! The girl in our school who had a bad attitude and who everyone spread bad rumors about her supposed ease-of-use? (She actually wasn't that bad, kids are mean.
). But seriously, Susan?
So, um, the next time he gets to see a photo of any woman I'm interested is when he gets a copy of my wedding photos, haha. What a friend!

This is going in my packet for the monastery, btw. Father Yakov will take my vows of celibacy seriously when he sees this little work of art.
Bahaha, don't give up yet!
lol
don't worry, you'll meet someone!
Just start pulling random photos from the web and see what he says. hahaha
Everybody reminds somebody of somebody.
thunder stealer!
Thank goodness. I can't afford bribing him anymore.
Lol! Go to womenwithmustaches.com and pull a few beauties from there.
If Jessica Alba is Alpo then you are Orijen or Royal Canin!
Ohhhh youuu.
It goes without saying that if your friend changes your opinion or in any way influences your feelings toward or against a girl, she was not right for you to begin with or you were just not that into her. True story.
Granted, you hold his opinion's in a high regard, but if you really liked a chick, it wouldn't matter if he said she resembled your pet poodle. You would see past that.
Also, if a dude was asking for my picture so he would show his friends, I would be a little miffed lol.
You know we gots to be honest with eachother. Tough love lol.
you asked for a photo????? do guys these days really know nothing about relationships hmm??
Good lord.
Maybe you should wait to show him a pic when you're further along in the relationship. He's a joy killer. :0)
Show him pictures when you didn't really like the girl...
Just came to thank you for paying me a visit and for recommending my tribute to jstickmann. It means a lot.
I'm torn between "aww, he's old-fashioned!" and my more modern (but still giving the benefit of the doubt) view of "hmmm...what does he mean by that?"
seriously. if i wasn't allowed to date a guy that looked like my brother, my dad, or those of my best friend i'd be outta luck. i've got too many of them (brothers and dad, i mean)... and honestly, most of my guy friends remind me of my brothers/dad in some way or another. i like it that way. my family's great, and it helps me to rate my guy friends/guys i've dated. if they can't hold a candle to one of the permanent guys in my life, they're gone. understandably i would never date someone who was exactly like one of my family members. that would be weird. but you're saying these women were soooo close to these people that you know that you couldn't continue in a relationship with them? seems to me that it was other reasons than their family resemblance. andd..... your post prolly was meant to be more humorous than my reply. eehhh. such is life.
Bahahahaha
This is priceless.
heyjulsiscoo is right!
She - shatterFocus - is right, too. LOL. And funny.
And Mac_Libureet may be on to something. Hehe.
You've gotta love friends like that...
So funny! When I finally had a picture of Matt and I when we first started dating, a good friend of mine said, "hey you two look like you could be brother and sister!". Apparently we have some features that are alike (which I can see). Freaked me out at first.
She's out there. I'm promise you. You are too cool of a guy not to find someone who truly is right for you.
Hahaha. 1) you should stop showing him photos of these women until the relationship goes somewhere because 2) you are just too susceptible to what he says and 3) unwilling to ask him to keep his trap shut. If you let your friend influence what you think so easily, maybe you should just let him hook you up with his sister, cause you sure aren't giving anyone else a chance.
hahaha nice friend =P
Let's play a game, then: all us Xanga ladies'll send you a pic, and you show them all to him until he runs out of these comparisons. Then, next time you've got one, either he won't have anything to say, or you'll have been inoculated against his process.
That's my suggestion.
@myfate22 - Gah, I've been there, too! I had that comparison made with my first boyfriend, which was especially awkward when I cut my hair in a really short, boyish cut.
Thanks for visiting! I like your xanga. You're funny!
I typically keep my relationship posts private...lol. My xanga is more just a teaching journal for me. I keep telling myself that I'll go back and read it all someday, but I never have. My life is definitely not boring.
This made me chuckle.
Also...thanks for the rec and shout-out in your status. I appreciate it.
this was really funny, thanks for sharing!
@epiginoskete - Ha! Glad to know I'm not the only one
That's kind of funny. You're getting dates, though, right? So it's not all bad.
haha... I just read this again. It's so true, I think most people's friends have a large part in what they do
