  • Brother's Wedding

My brother is getting married this weekend. I am thus trying to prepare a decent toast, and so far failing miserably. How can one be concise in such a situation? I don't want to blog my ideas for a toast yet, since he reads this blog every month or so, ha. But to honor him, I'm reprinting this blog I first wrote in September 2005 to celebrate his birthday:

"Even more important, SOMEONE is 23 today! Nick, my brother, has gone Jordan, God bless him Go tell him Happy Birthday if you know his Xanga. Let me tell a Nick story or two...

My parents tell me I was VERY excited to have a little brother in the house. Still am, actually
The only problem was that I wanted to play all the time, and he, being
younger, wanted to sleep some too. So when he was 2 and I was 4, and he
would sit and not want to play, I would grab his legs and pull him OFF
the chair, hitting his head on the floor! Obviously, my parents
couldn't put up with this. So my mom put me on the chair, and grabbed
my legs as if she was going to pull. My eyes widened, and my little
4-year-old brain suddenly realized that pulling Nick's legs was a BAD
idea indeed. Since then, we've gotten along pretty well, ha.

Nick is very smart, funny, and athletic. He was the star of the
school play in 9th grade. He was the captain of the soccer team. He was
Homecoming King. He captained our Quiz team at church his senior year.
He won the Christian school state title for his drama performance. He
went to national competitions for both Writing and Drama Solo, and did
well. Then he went to college, and was even cooler, if possible . Along with me, he started a speech team at our university and won trophies at several tournaments (usually at my expense, ha ).
He served as president of Chi Alpha at college, and graduated with tons
of honors in Nursing. He works for one of the best hospitals in the
country. He has a huge library of self-produced comedy videos (I got to
be his co-star sometimes, and NO, you can't see them!), music mixes,
and creative writing. What else did I leave out, Nick? hmm...He is a
better basketball player than...no, even if it's his birthday, I won't
    say that  :-p .

Even better, Nick is a very patient, self-controlled fellow. He
cares about people who everyone else might not notice. He is fiercely
loyal to his friends and job. He forgives easily. And now that he's my
roommate, I get to see him every day .
God bless you, Nick, and I love you. And no, the thought of using this
to make up for the fact that I couldn't find an adequate birthday
present never crossed my mind :-p Dan will buy you the bongos! (no, I'm
    not joking, sigh)."

More new material soon, I hope.

Isn't Nick a very Greek name?

  • ah, good luck with the toast writing.  recently having been chosen as a maid of honor for an old friend, i'm looking forward to hearing about some of your ideas ... ;)

your brother sounds like a great guy.  or maybe you sound like a great brother.  perhaps it's a mix of the two?  with, i assume, an appropriate amount of brotherly rivalry thrown in.  i hope this weekend is blessed for you both

and ... xa?  where?  some of my best friends and memories are from my too-short time in osu's.

  • that's sweetttttt...

I love my little brother too!

  • =) nothing like a little sibling love.

Congrats to the brother. His future wife is a lucky gal!

  • If there was a fraternity without a Greek name, would the world just blow up?

  • Yes, it would, Avenue.

  • Good luck with the toast writing! You're pretty eloquent so I'm sure you can come up with something great
