Summer Xanga Book Club
I'd like to go through a book this summer as part of a Xanga book club. What book do you all want to read? Let's pick something that's a bit obscure, short, and available on the web so that no one has to pay any money.
I had a hard time thinking of books that would qualify, but here's a few possibilities:
1) Billy Budd. by Herman Melville
2) Short Story Collection by O. Henry
3) David Balfour by Robert Louis Stevenson, if I could find a copy online.
4) Precious Bane by Mary Webb, if I could find a copy online. Please by all means tell me if you're in and if you have a book in mind. In some ways, the shorter, the better it is. Oh, and also, thanks to my favorite elderly person @oxlorixo for helping inspire the idea.

I like this idea.
The Tin Drum by Gunter Grass

OH MY GOD, YES!!! I don't really have any books I want to read other than a long list of classics....but YES!!!
i want in. i have an embarrassing list of classics i've never read: catcher in the rye, to kill a mockingbird, anything by that dude except for the sun also rises. but i'll read what someone else suggests.
@promisesunshine - You HAVE to read To Kill a Mockingbird and Catcher in the Rye ASAP. They are two of the best books I've ever read.
I'm in. :]
@AsToldByKatie - i had catcher checked out of the library all last summer and even my teenage daughter read and loved to kill a mock. so, yes, I KNOW!! i will. i will. right after i finish....
I'm in!
50 Shades of grey for sure. Everyone needs more smut in their life.
I want to read gone with the wind. It's been sitting on my bookcase for a while now, staring at me. And it's on the net for free I think, so.
At first glance I thought the title of this post was "Summer Xanga Boob Club."
I'm in.. I mean, I am a nerd who likes reading, ha ha. I went to see "Prometheus" the other day and spend about 2-3 hours when I got home looking at questions and discussions online
Billy Budd, Sailor is depressing and untimely, not to mention unfinished. O. Henry generally has pretty good stuff, but may not be accessible to a wide-range audience, as it is both dated and regional. RLS isn't bad, that could be fun, that would be my vote of the four up there, as I like the author and am not familiar with that particular title.
The two books I'd throw into the ring, that are on my short-list, would be The King in Yellow and Manfred. Links to full-text versions.
i'm down =)
i dig it!
BAHAHA!!! You jerk!!
Horns by Joe Hill.
My favoriate book is "A Song ofIceandFire" , you must heard it too, did you?
my blog, PDF splitter, PDF split
I think reading a classic may be a ggh that book great idea, I like the idea of Gone with the Wind--though that book is really long, but would love to read it again...umm I loved Catcher in the Rye and To Kill a Mockingbird--both are great books, really good and a must read. Ummm....as for classics, something we can all agree on would be great.
If you have a iphone there is a app called "4share" can people post like alot of new good books..i got fifthy shades of grey off it
how about some of the short stories by edgar allen poe or melville? both free through amazons kindle app and shouldnt take more than a day to read
Check out Project Gutenberg, it has a whack load of free ebooks that are now in the public domain. The website is http://www.gutenberg.org/ and you can do a search or scroll down for "what's new", etc. I personally love that Oscar Wilde's works are now available
