What's in a Name? Pain and Gain
I have met six different women who had the same name; let's call it Susan. All had the same color hair, and most have similar eyes. All were Christians. All of them were friends of mine for some period of time, and with most of them I made a great first impression. None are particularly close friends today. Without getting into too many details, let's just say that the next Susan I meet, I'll say "I kill puppies for fun" and run. Twice is coincidence; six times is freaky.
Another coincidence that amuses me about names has to do with a Xanga friend who is the third girl I've met with her name in 2009. The last two times I met a girl with her name, we went out twice together, and then the girl decided there was nothing there. (One time I agreed; the other time I didn't). What's amusing is, Xanga friend and I have also met twice, although she hasn't blocked me yet, ha.
This ever happen to anyone else? What names are you afraid of, and what names are you attracted to?

The freakiest coincidence? There's an actress who plays a character on a TV show. The character's name is Susan. She matches the six real-life Susan's I know, exactly.
Not names, physical traits attract me. One friend with said physical trait claims I have bad taste in men.
In grade seven I was dating (in that childish way) a guy named Kyle, but my teacher decided I was dating the other Kyle.
:/
Oh, and two of the guys I consecutively dated later were both played soccer, the saxophone, went to the same elementary, were the middle child, lived within five minutes of each other, had messy hair, had a boat, had two middle names, were both math honours students AND they were best friends. (Well- prior to me.)
i know too many Jennifer's and James'. -___- weird that's more than John. heh.
Oh and all the Connie's I've ever met have been nice people.
and by being Vietnamese, i know too many Nguyen's.
i don't really get attracted to names, but i can assume general background a lot by a person's last name.
Most of the Amandas I've met have been annoying, bitches, or both. (I don't mean any offense to any Amandas who read this... this has just been my experience.) The Rebeccas I've met have been pretty, outgoing, and popular. And the Rachels I've met have been Christian, kind-hearted, and would do anything for a friend.
All of the Johns I've met have been attractive, interesting, nice Christian men too. ;] Haha!
Patricks, Matts and one very unfortunate Ryan. *shudder*
Ohh now I want to know her name :X
and it's called homogamy, you are attracted to people who have the same interests, likes, etc. as you do.
But six different girls? That is quite a coincidence.
There really isn't too much constancy in girls that I've met who share names.
Where deja vu can kill you.
It seems I've dated a lot of guys whose names start with "T"
Also went with a few Andrews. Damn them.
My first bf's name was Mike. He was an asshole. While I was dating him, two other girls I knew were dating Mikes. They were also assholes. There were six guys in my entire hs freshmen class whose names were Mike. Every single one of them an asshole. I have yet to meet a nice Mike.
I don't like the name Wanda. Every Wanda I've met since 1968 has been, well... not nice in a female canine way.
you really need to stop dating Susans.
i've never dated two women with the same name. WEIRD.
I am wary of Chris. Btw, my name is really Sue. Coincidence? Yikes.
My boyfriend of 3 years dated a girl in high school named Ashley Nicole ______. My name is Ashley Nicole (different last name). We found out that we played soccer together when we were 5 years old. Her last name is the same as my great-grandma's last name. And after all that..we are now best friends. haha
@SimplyNita - Let's talk sometime. I hope I can change your perception of Mikes.
-Mike
Actually, all of the Andrews I've known have been really good-looking, haha.
I forgot to mention that in there.
Nope, I've never really met many people with the same name.
Although, I have met quite a few people with the same name as me. (Andrew) And while we weren't all exactly alike, we did share a few similarities in certain areas.
And then I've heard from numerous people (@fairiesmythsdragons - ) that the Andrew's they have met have been good looking/cute. I don't know what to say, maybe its the name itself that's cute?
haha I doubt it.
Nobody has my name! hooray.
i like andre's
haha wow, that's slightly scary.
but totally cool.
I've met two girls with the same name, both were in the same grade in HS, too. I've met two guys with the same name - different ages, but both friends of mine in HS. But SIX!?!?! Dang.
John, I'm madly in love with you even though you kill puppies. I will now become a stalker of all things GreekPhysique and can't wait to have lots of salt n pepper haired crazy intelligent half russian-jew half greek-orthodox (won't your parents love that!) mutt babies.
XD
(and in case everyone was flipping out, no, i'm not serious.
)
@Parsimony - DUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDE. Me too. All 3 Chris's I've meet have always fallen in love with me. Super creepy.
@Levanna - Waaaait...I don't remember you being Russian. Seriously?
@GreekPhysique - Yeah, my dad's mom is from the Ukraine. Like, off the boat Ukrainian.
@Levanna - I've dated 2 Chris'' not so much the relations that were bad as the name rubs me the wrong way.
@Ro_ad808 - haha
Hey Mike, I'm Nita. Nice to meet you!
I dated three guys named Mark in a row. Also my brother's name.... ! Common name - coincidences are more common than people think.
I think your girl filter is pretty narrow? This is hardly coincidence....
Very rarely do I meet an Alex or Tyler that I do not find attractive, at least for a little while (and this even precedes the Tyler Hansbrough thing). On the flip side, I can't remember having ever met a good-looking Michael.
No more Jasons for me. Ironically, I'm the third consecutive Sarah that Jason #1 has dated. Most of my friends will say they know way too many people named Sarah *groan*. I know a lot of Katie's and several Jewish Matt's.
I dated or went with girls named Bridget, Tammie, Brittani, Danielle, Shannon, and Trish. None of them were alike. Most were blond, with one brunette and one redhead. So I can definitely say that physical or personality attributes led me to pursue them....
@SimplyNita - One of my nephews is a Mike! He's a great young fellow, happily married and with two wonderful kids, a boy and a girl! I have huge respect for my nephew, Mike, and I have known other wonderful Mikes as well. Sorry you encountered the wrong ones! Better luck next time!
That is crasy about the six girls w/ same name! There are certain names that would be negative (I'm not saying I couldn't get past it) but turn offs would include 1) anyone with the same name as a close relative (dad or brother) (it just feels a bit like incest. Yeah, I know it's not, but it feels like it), & 2) the same name as an ex that really hurt me (I could get over this one, it's just that when you're tying to go for something different, it feels like a bad sign), 3.) anyone that has the same name as pets I've had or close friends pets (it just feels weird).
I dated a boy named Logan. He cheated on me. I dated another boy named Logan. He also cheated on me. Coincidence?
To be honest, I was scared of most guys named John until I met you. But that's because a John cheated on me my freshman year of college and it took a while for me to recover from that.
I've found I'm not a huge fan of girls with cutesy names, such as Kelly or Brittany .Every one I've met has always been popular...and I never was.
God things from your past really do effect your future!
Those are some really strange coincidences. I don't think I have any patterns like that. One of my girlfriends dated something like 20+ guys in a 3 year span whose names were either Matt, Mike or started with J. It got incredibly confusing trying to keep up with her love life.
Hasn't happened to me, but that is weird.
Sarah.
You never know! The next Susan might be the one! hahahah....
I try to avoid Jillian's and Jessica's. For obvious reasons >_<
A name is just a name, mostly. But if you have strong feelings--negative or positive--for any given individual, then you tend to note/conjure up more feelings for the name's discoveries in whatever other context heard/seen. Interesting, mm?
i literally laughed out loud at "i kill puppies for fun" hahahahahaha!
but i don't think i could ever date a guy with the same name as my dad or brothers. that would just creep me out. but i have dated guys that have simple names. kyle, john, matt, mark, cole, ect.
@the_rocking_of_socks - dude stay away from the logans!
I've never met a Dennis that didn't make my skin crawl or a Pam who was a nice person. I try to hold out hope for the names but the results of a lifetimes experience have not been good, I pray to be proven wrong soon and I wonder if I don't bring bad feelings about the name into it when I first meet a new Pam or Dennis. On the other hand Johns and Davids seem to be wonderful men without exception thus far. Every other name tends to have both good and bad traits associated with them in my mind.
D.A.V.
I.
...........d
I can't even type it. UGH.
This is interesting. I stay away from names of guys who I have been involved with within the last 2 years... haha.. but other than that I have noticed all so & so's are good looking or all so & so's are mean. Interesting blog. What are your thoughts on the name Christina? Bad, good, nothing?
@screamingout4you - We had a family friend named Christina; she was very nice, my parents were always trying to witness to her about Jesus. So mostly decent, but again, not much definition. The field is clear for you to define what Christina means to me!
every boy I've ever dated has had four letters in their name... no more, no less. eric, john, nick, josh, will, alan... it's odd
i seem to like names that have a shortened form. ie jason-jay, steven-steve and so on.
