  • Farewell For Now

    Saturday marked my 6th year Xanga anniversary. That's as many years as I spent in grad school.

    I think it's time for me to take a long Xanga break. It's been difficult to write good posts lately.

    I love you all, but it feels like the right time.

    I won't be around this summer. I will reassess my decision in the fall.

    Thanks to the many of you who have shown me love, entertainment, information, and humor.

    I still can't believe so many people read this site. If only my creative writing teacher could see this blog...!

    You can always user tag me, message me here, or email if you want me

    to read a particular post or something important happens.

    I am not shutting anything down. Please stay in touch.

    One last comment for all of you, because I refuse to let this just be a "boo-hoo, Greek's leaving" post. So many of you are teens/college students trying to figure out who you are and where you're going. I just wanted to encourage you to give the process time. Many of you are very hard on yourselves.

    Even though you may not be in college, it doesn't mean you are  dumb.

    Even though you may not have a boyfriend, it doesn't mean you are ugly.

    Even though you feel guilty, it doesn't mean that God hates you.

    As someone who was in college and graduate school for a decade, and single for most of that time, I deeply sympathize with your struggle. It's why I worked so hard to encourage so many of you...I remember how thick the darkness was, and how much I needed a little encouragement during those tough days. But I also can see the future, and I believe it will be a bright one if you do not give up and live an honest, loving life.We all have weaknesses, but we all have potential to contribute to society and to love and be loved.

  • Even when you're saying farewell you still have words of wisdom that speak right to me it seems. You've helped me a lot this past year. I never thought I'd say that to someone I had never met.   • Such will power.  But I hope to lower my time on the computer as well and spend more of my days outside.  Good luck, and you will be missed, but nor can I blame you for leaving.  Xanga is too addicting and it's sort of an unhealthy habit.

    It's a mature view, knowing that the world doesn't revolve around Xanga, nor will it end as people come and go.

  • I'm sad to see you go, but I understand your decision. I've realized in recent months that the reason I stopped writing on Xanga as much is because it became difficult to write good posts for me as well. Not sure why, it just happened...They used to roll off my fingers every day!

  • well, it's a good thing you came out this weekend then and reconnect with the xanga community. =)

  • The story about Lost in Translation: my downstairs neighbor Nathaniel in Boston worked for Oxfam and did a lot of international travel. After the tsunami hit southeast Asia, he was a key person in raising and distributing relief money. Scarlet wanted to see the devastation, and Nathaniel was going to be her guide. One of my roommates asked if he'd get her autographs for us, and he actually obliged. That he agreed with this was really rare, because it might seem unprofessional, but that was outweighed by the awesomeness of getting to meet Scarlet. We all purchased DVDs of Lost in Translation, he packed them up, and then he headed off. But a situation arose and he had to head for elsewhere (I believe he had to go somewhere. I don't really remember that detail). So when he arrived we were thrilled to see him and then he had to break the news to us.     @freebirdheart - Aww, I'd like to. I'm trying to pray and think it over properly. See, I got too into it last time, and I feel I wasn't doing the right thing for my work or for God. I don't want to do that again. But I really look forward to sharing stuff and talking. Pray for me if you get a chance, that God will lead me properly. And thank you, you asking and checking up on me is heartwarming!
