VLOG: Random Mental Experiments
Me babbling. Ok, here's one for you to try. Every time you see a door, I want you to think of ice cream. See if you find yourself craving ice cream after a week, ha.

I love it when you babble. You sound like a PSA. Just a warning: If I ever meet you, I will kick you in the shins for the ice cream/door correlation.
I have ice-cream every day as that is my son's choice for an after-school treat.(Of course, I mustn't deny myself.) Perhaps I should envision the ice-cream in a different location? Or maybe on a different location? (That would be a nice treat!)
Going to try a few of my own.
What you speak of is entirely 100% doable. One can literally trick oneself into a happier mood simply by thinking of something that makes one happy. Too many one's. Haha. Yes, I've done this to myself before. In terms of studying for school, I just told myself that if I studied I'd get out of school quicker and never have to worry about it again. Probably the main reason my GPA kept improving despite the classes getting harder and harder. Sometimes you can't throw yourself out of a funk, but most of the time you can. I've actually done this to other people a lot. When they start complaining I plant a nice thought into their head and trick them into a better mood. I'm a firm believer that you can't really think through a problem or something bothering you if you're high on emotional stress. When you do as you suggest, you give your brain a break to work through the problems or you trick it into "hey this ain't half bad after all!"
Excellent idea!
when I was a kid I used to stare at random objects and think about a word in my head and see if later on I would think of the word when I saw that object. It worked
I HATE THE LAKERS TOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! OMG!! HIGH FIVE!!!!!!!!!!!
that is such an interesting thing. i will try it! even tho I've done something like that but a bit different. I tend to try to trick myself into doing things or convince myself whatever happened was for the best. but i shall blog more about this later
I hate the leakers only second to the heat.
Manipulation of your self and others
Oh yeah... I'm good at that. I try not to be but I am. I avoid doing it.
I enjoy your v-logs, you have a certain way of talking.
i always stare at the back of people's heads and think "if you can hear me thinking, raise your right hand, etc.".
once a guy actually rose his hand and i was super freaked out... fun times
For the believer, there's a Biblical way to do this that feeds and sustains our souls.. Romans 12:1-2, I Peter 1:3.
If we keep filling our minds with garbage, what do we expect? GIGO. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. In contrast, the devil is a liar and the father of lies; he's all about getting us to fill our minds with falsehood, which hinders us from entering into the presence of God and knowing the joy of Christ. That's why the Psalmist prayed:
Psalm 43
3 Send out your light and your truth;
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwelling!
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God my exceeding joy,
and I will praise you with the lyre,
O God, my God.
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.
(BTW: I don't need any assistance when it comes to craving ice cream.
)
Wow that's actually neat. I've never thought of doing something like that.
Maybe that's why some people wake up and the first thing they do is get up and go about doing their business (whether that be getting ready or doing prayer), but without really thinking about it. It's something to pass the time until you get out of that "groggy" state of waking up on those hard days. I guess it's about having a routine. I'm going to try it out actually, that is, forcing myself to have a routine. I've never really had one... I'll just wake up and let my mind take over with all its crazy thoughts which usually dictates what I'll do in the morning. That's not really a good idea. But at the same time, it's okay to feel the way we do... in the end, if you're in a bad mood, you're still gonna be thinking depressing thoughts as you go about doing your routine. Feel what you want to feel. Then again, at least with a routine, you'll be getting something accomplished
Argh, life is crazy
@endlesslysummer - haha I so agree life is crazy. This reminded me, I need to try my own experiment! so here goes
