  • Why You Shouldn't Fact-Check Political Posts

So I had a fantastic post on politics, women, and the Democratic Party lined up, until I went to Google and started fact-checking. My hypothesis disappeared in a blizzard of statistics and polls. Sniff. Let's all pause to remember the glorious story that could have been. Close your eyes and imagine that you were reading something intellectually stimulating and intriguing here that you haven't read elsewhere. Imagine that you were smiling and nodding your head instead of desperately skimming this whiny drivel in hopes of something informative. That's it...yes...laugh as you read the quips and observations that are now worthless...please...(weeps quietly onto his keyboard).

  • But I do plan on writing more about politics this month. We'll see.

  • you could always post without accurate facts.  wouldn't be the first person on xanga to do that. ;)

  • Yes, fact-checking is seriously bucking the trend.  You're such a radical.
I feel your pain. though, I have done that myself more than once.  It's good to learn, though, even if misinformation is more fun.

  •   Just say that it's over your head, or you will be braindead.  Not that I think that's right because we all make mistakes and this is not a proper punishment.   I was young for the love of God, and I WAS frayed just like they want.  They want us to spew that crap.

Where are they when you need them? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIxyJz9TANk They're just trapping us instead for their own uses.   Oh well, I want to be the first to die.

  • My brain is like on crack in its natural state. I ignite things.  I am a destroyer.  Oh well.  It's all part of the universe. They are so lucky, the ones that can relax.  the likelihood of me living long wasn't very high.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQZDbBGBJsM  I just kind of scribble now, but as usual, I'm still going after the tamas.

  • *smiles and nods*

  • *and then gets offended and starts an argument over something that we will never see eye to eye on, but yet I refuse to agree to disagree because I AM right!!*

  • Being a college professor, I'm all about checking the original source when I can.  Fact checking saves me from a lot of drama and grief.  Although I've read some great blogs that were based on less than factual infol.

  • don't fact check and just call it poetry

  • fact-check?

what's that?  something i have never come across before in my life..  hmm

  • It's always good to do your research Saves you from being embarrassed later.

  • You should've done it anyway and then posted a disclaimer at the bottom that everything you just wrote was false. It would've been one of those great posts made better by the unsuspected turn of events!

  • It's happened to me too.  Thanks for not manipulating us with distorted information.  I wish other folks would do their research and willingly admit when their hypotheses are wrong.

  • You have no idea how often I start typing an absolutely amazing post but before I can click "submit" I've finished all of my research to find out the premise was way off-base.

Oh well, I suppose I could just rant.

  • It was worth it to lose that other post (and btw, I know what you mean).
This one had me laughing.  Thanks.

  • i used to happily present links to support my statements on xanga until i realized it doesn't matter and realized i was spending my time doing homework for the lazy. so lazy that i posted a link to the Vatican's website which backed up my statement and curtis aka loborn who claims to be a devout Catholic who asked me for the link then told me it's a *liberal* website. i did the work. he didn't even bother to click on it. he's trolling under yet another name lately. i have to laugh at people who agree with him. then there was the guy who argued with me for a couple of hours as if he was an expert on a topic. a week later he asked me "what was that topic again?" holy crap

  • I sort of want to hear it anyways.  Just to see how many people will chime in saying they agree without doing any fact-checking themselves.

  • It helps to not pick the wrong side of an argument <3

  • I never say that I what I post has facts in it. It's not nice to lie and I hate research!

  • @TheSutraDude -  Same here. I used to present links as well in discussions.  Back in my old sometime internet hangout, that was the baseline expectation.  But these days...

  • Sometimes, I don't even trust the fact checkers. "Oh, look, I have a graph that crushes your every thought on this subject. But all that means is that I have an impressive spreadsheet, and a ruler...."

  • Glad you did~

  • Dude? You're doing it backwards.

You check the facts BEFORE you write the piece...at least that was how it was done when I was a journalist.
This way you don't end up weeping.

Of course, with online, you can find pseudo facts to back just about ANYTHING....

  • opinion doesn't always go with facts. ;)

  • Why worry about the facts when you know your right

    I thinnk that's Xanga's motto!

  • *offers a tissue for you and your keyboard*

  • hahaha well at least you did the fact checking before the posting!
