Geography and Personality: A Greek Quiz
I found an interesting article showing that personality traits tend to group by region in the USA:
For example, New Yorkers tend to be more creative, imaginative, and intellectual, while Louisiana folk tend to be friendly but stressed. The article, plus some blogs by @SpAnKyLiCiOuS ,made me wonder further: to what extent is my personality shaped by having Greek parents? This is the part where I tell you that this is a very self-focused blog, and feel free to exit now before you fall asleep. The Greek Quiz, via Marrying a Greek , This is My Happy Place, and the classic business book Kiss, Bow, or Shake Hands: Count how many "Yes" answers you have.

11) Greeks often fidget or foot-tap, but this does not necessarily indicate boredom.
12) Anger is sometimes expressed by a smile.
13) Greeks are very generous.
14) Greeks interpret things dramatically. "When things are good, the drama and enthusiasm he displays are infectious and enjoyable. However, when things do not go well in his life, everything is exaggerated and he seems to have little ability to control his mood or see things logically."
15) When things improve, Greeks forget the bad times quickly.

35) Greeks like being well-dressed and having a lot of color and/or makeup in their personal style. Individualized style is important.
36) If you ignore a Greek person's advice or comment, they will be hurt, but will not necessarily confront on the spot. They will remember, though, and snub you when you want something from them.

39) Hospitality is important.
40) Food is important to the Greek, as is cooking.
*) Greeks are people of contradictions, yet this does not seem to bother them, and they appreciate the tension. My Greek score is quite high. I find it fascinating how much of my personality seems to be tied directly to my nationality even though I have never lived in Greece. What's your score? Do you fit the stereotypes for your nationality? I also wonder to what extent my close friends fit those traits, or if I tend to befriend those who are different than myself.

32. Or maybe it was 34, I lost track because my objective counting got in the way of my subjective awesomeness. My count reflects how many of those statements are both true of me and my people, in my Greekest opinion.
20 for me.
In some ways I fit the stereotypes of my ethnicity, but seeing as I was brought up in the states, I tend to be a bit different. A lot of people on Xanga, after either listening to my voice or seeing the way I comment, are surprised to learn that I'm originally from India. Haha
14.
I'm a Western European mutt, so most stereotypes in that region can apply to me. I think I more closely resemble the Jewish archetype, but only slightly.
i honestly have no clue what my ethnic background is. i never cared, even in elementary school when we had an assignment to figure out what our ancestry was. I am even less knowledgeable and care even less about that is "normal" for the different ancestries.
as for my score on your greek thing here, i'm really not sure, a number of those descriptions are confusing to me. but this is the typical of all personality test things, i never understood why they have to try and hide the statements/questions.
I'm incredibly terrible at counting, but it was around 25. Most of my background is Irish, but I never knew anyone from there. I'd say I'm pretty much just dull American.
I swear you're talking about Filipinos... although 38 is not one of our traits... and 27 too... bwahahahaha
I counted 22. I totally was picturing the family from "my big fat greek wedding" while reading this, as they are totally 40/40 on this.
Aww yay! My name is mentioned!
lol I got a 33....
I answered yes to: 1-11, 14, 16, 26,27, 29-36, 38-40. The other ones I didn't find incredibly indicative, at least not of the Greeks I know. And 28, it's a partial yes a partial no. Many of the Greeks I know would never shit on themselves, while there are a few I know that do it. I don't find it a universal cultural trait and I do know OTBs.
I can tell you right now I'd score a near 40 on an equivalent Serbian test. I'm disgustingly Serbian even though I was born and raised here and maybe spent a cumulative of 2 years in the motherland between all the summers I went there. Parents do influence you if they CHOOSE to. I know some Greek kids who speak less of their language than I do lol. It also kind of depends on the kid in some cases because my sister is not very Serbian at all and god knows my parents tried to brainwash the both of us. Difference is I accepted it and she didn't really. Loved this. Sorry it took me so long to get around to it.
I got a 32-34, depending on how I count the close ones. Ha thanks for taking it! It could be us oldest children are also closer to the mother country? That's a suspicion of mine.
I'm glad I did this, it's due to some of your blogs, so, thanks for that!
